Our Interview with Emma from Carters Cleaners

BB: Emma, it’s wonderful to have you here. Let’s begin with what motivated you to start Carters Cleaners and your experiences thus far.
Emma – Carters Cleaners: Thank you for having me. It’s been a remarkable journey rooted in a desire to help others. My past roles in various supportive professions, like working in pharmacies and care homes, greatly influenced my approach. When doing community care, I used to go into houses that needed a good old clean, but unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to do as much as we liked. So I came up with the idea of Carter’s cleaners so I could carry on helping people.
The journey has had its ups and downs for sure, but I’m so happy I stuck with it when the times were hard as we have such an amazing and rewarding company now. It’s been a path filled with many challenges but immensely rewarding, especially as I’ve been able to draw on my own mental health experiences to assist others.
BB: That’s truly commendable. Could you share some unique cleaning challenges you’ve encountered?
Emma: Certainly. Each day brings its own set of challenges at Carters Cleaners. We’re specialists in many areas but one area is mental health and hoarding cleans. We focus on helping individuals declutter and enhance their living environments, making a tangible difference in their lives. Some people feel very overwhelmed asking for help, and I’m happy we can discreetly help them overcome that.

BB: What are some common misconceptions about professional cleaning services?
Emma: Many believe it’s just basic cleaning, but it’s far more comprehensive. We pay attention to the finer details and tailor our services to meet diverse requirements. It’s not just about cleaning; it’s about managing complex situations, such as severe mould, with expertise and care. People think we just go into houses, offices or even factories and just “run the hoover round” This is not the case at all but always makes me chuckle when people say this. You have to have a keen eye for detail to do everything we do at our level. Our cleaning company offers bespoke cleans to match your requirements, so all cleans are different. People often say, “You are just a cleaner,” but as cleaners, we deal with extreme circumstances; for example, I have cured a 10-room house that was covered in mould; we treated and removed the mould, then redecorated the whole property.
BB: Wow, so it’s not a can of Mr Sheen and a duster! It is great to know how far you can go with a clean. We know personally that you cover so much more, oven cleaning, emergency call-outs and more. So, how do you balance effective cleaning with safety and eco-friendliness?
Emma: We only use high-end commercial and industrial products to ensure we maintain a high standard of cleaning; we also have all safety data sheets and COSHH sheets, all staff are trained in using these products. All our staff are thoroughly trained in both safety and eco-friendly practices. It’s about upholding superbly high standards while being environmentally conscious.
BB: That’s good to know, thank you. What are your top tips for maintaining a clean and healthy home?
Emma: To do one room at a time, at my own house I get very distracted with life so doing one room at a time ensures everything is completed. Also, getting a Cleaner ensures you have more time for your life, friends, and family. We concentrate on the cleaning, so you can concentrate on living.
BB: How is the cleaning industry evolving, and what trends do you foresee?
Emma: The industry is shifting towards a far more specialised service. Staying ahead and understanding the changing needs of our clients is key. We are growing to incorporate these specialities within our growing team so we know we will be able to cover every job with the highest professionalism and use the latest techniques and technology to help.
BB: Could you share a particularly memorable success story?
Emma: Our work in a mental health crisis and hoarding cleans is especially rewarding. Transforming unsafe, cluttered spaces into safe, liveable homes is our passion. We can see that we bring a tangible benefit to these cases and it feels good to help.
BB: So, with everything changing and your team growing, how do you ensure the high quality of your cleaning staff?
Emma: Through in-depth, hands-on training. We ensure our staff are fully equipped and confident before they undertake jobs independently. We ensure they continually develop, and we listen to our customers and adapt when needed.
BB: Finally, and this is a big question: what are your long-term aspirations for Carter’s Cleaners?
Emma: We are on track to expand further, particularly into specialist cleaning areas. We aim to establish Carters Cleaners Elite as a renowned go-to name in Burntwood and the West Midlands.
